from the Caller Times: Nueces County commissioners could help Rangel School By Brandi Dean/Caller-Times February 22, 2006 Nueces County commissioners voted 3-2 Wednesday to approve a contract for consulting services with Texas A&M University-Kingsville that will provide the university with $1 million a year for the next three years. It is believed the money will be used to help with the opening of the Irma Lerma Rangel School of Pharmacy at A&M-Kingsville. I attended this meeting (as I usually do), and Chuck Cacales and Betty Jean Longoria voted"

As to ""the DEl MAR taxing entity"", if you''re refering to HB 2221 in the last session of the ledge, HB 2221 would have basically extended the taxing district to include all of Nueces, Aransas, Kenedy, San Pat and part of Kleberg counties. As to NASCC being on the chopping block via BRAC, no county money from any county should have been spent on the embarassing ""Please Don''t Close Our Base Campaign"". The decision should have been left to the military and the committee. If it results in area counties and cities not rallying money and support to fight closing a base that has been deemed unnecessary it''s a good thing.

The"
...was the WASTE of MONEY that should have been protested. There was no way to save those bases by lobbying or payment. That would morally amount to bribery. I recall that these people went on the talkshows and fought for that conceptually similar appropration of funds. Texas A&M University-Kingsville is not a KINGSVILLE or KLEBERG county insitituion. It is a State institution. People are looking at this as a ""Why are we giving Kingsville that money?"" I say it is a waste...but don''t be so CORPUSCENTRIC and be fair to the contemporary history of all this. If Kleberg County was expected to ""picth in"" to save the Federal Institutions of NAS Corpus Christi and NS Ingleside...Nueces County better be prepared to do the same to save a State Institution in Kleberg County. And that''s one form you ""county Cousin!!!""

Re: The"
The big difference is money is being spent on a study (whatever that''s suppposed to mean). Whereas in the BRAC situation, money was being spent for lobbying and campaign efforts. At least in BRAC, money was spent on an idea, but in this situation there isn''t a single idea about where the 1-million is being spent on. It would be like setting up a personal budget for several thousand dollars for home improvements without any idea of what improvements would be made. Budgets should not be designed for such specific cluelessness.

JUDGE SHAMSIE IS NOT RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION SO IT DOES NOT REALLY MATTER WHAT THE TAXPAYER THINKS OF HIS CURRENT DECISIONS AT THIS POINT. AND AS LONG AS HE HAS AT LEAST TWO COUNTY COMMISSIONERS VOTING HIS WAY..IT''S A DONE DEAL. ALL I DID WAS SMILE WHEN I HEARD THE NEWS BECAUSE YOU COULD NOT WRITE A BETTER COMEDY IF YOU TRIED.

Nueces County has approved three million dollars in ''consulting fees'' over the next three years to be paid to TAMUK. The money will be paid for, among other things, a study on how the Nueces County can be run more efficiently. What a crock. Unable to organize its own financing for its pharmacy school, the politicians of the two counties have wrangled a deal and the citizens of Nueces County will pay for it. This is what happens when we fail to vote and fail to hold our elected officials accountable for their actions. This deal stinks.

Also the 13.3 mill of TAMUKS was bartered away for a new District Court in Cleberg.Posted on February 26, 2006 at 00:30:30 AM by Jaime Kenedeño
I told yall a long time ago about this. Now it is affecting YOU. Should have spoke up earlier oh Blind One? Should have listened and engaged yourself in the formulation of South Texas Public Policy.

BB, this is about WATT the Politicians did not do for South TexasPosted on February 26, 2006 at 00:18:16 AM by JaimeGood I am glad it pissed you off! You know WATT they say right BB? Better to be pissed off than pissed on. Dont you see that it is a barb from Shamsie? Better than to leave it for Neal to steal. And besides WATT about the bigger crocks like the would be money for Randy Delay and the inefficiently spent money at Naval Station Ingleside? WATT a crock! You are Blind selectively arent you BB?

Did you say the deal stinks?Posted on February 26, 2006 at 00:05:52 AM by elWATTSamattaI was present when Chuck Cazales made the remark that he smelled a skunk. Judge Shamsie then ordered every Commissioner to put Odor Eaters in their shoes. Guess what! Commissioner Cazales disappeared. Shamsie, you're good.
