Give Eric a dunking?
6/20/2006 10:12:07 PM
To celebrate this year's Independence there will be a whole lot of stuff going on in Kingsville on Saturday July 1st.
We have written to Eric to ask if he will volunteer to be dunked in our dunking booth - but he's a busy guy and hasn't written back yet.
Maybe he needs a little persuasion so I thought I'd post here and ask the threadsters whether you think he should take us up on the challenge.
We'll have the Chief of police and we think also the Mayor as well as other important locals - wouldn't it be great if we could throw wet sponges at Eric though?
He has many listeners in Kingsville - and the Tearoom will provide all the changing facilities and a slap-up meal to get him refreshed afterwards!
So, what do you think everyone?
- Robin

Re: Occupational Reality Check

As much as I appreciate the sentiment and the offer I am going to decline to accept in the capacity of participation in the ""Dunking Booth."" As I am sure you all are aware there are those who would take the opportunity to percieve my vulnerability as a negative and propagate a portrayal as such. I know that this is not your hopes or intentions but unfortunately this is not the standard amongst the general public or those who disagree with me and take their politics to extream personal levels. I would be more than happy to help in other ways.
Sincerely,
Eric von Wade

I''m sorry you feel that way Eric, we have some of the most outstanding citizens in Kingsville lined up who just see it all as a laugh. I think you''d have had a very supportive crowd.
Oh well, we''d be very grateful if you happen to get a moment to mention on your show that Kingsville''s July 4th is on July 1st this year? :)
That there''s a Market day all day, a classic car show, live bands, clowns, a petting zoo and much more - terminating with a grand parade at 6:30. All happening on East Kleberg Avenue.
Cheers mate!

I think it''s kind of intrusive to use this medium to persuade Eric to drive ALL the way out to Kingsville.
Most people would probably charge an appearance fee.

Well, you can only ask eh? And people can say yes or no - most have said ""yes"". Eric would have been very well looked after by us - as are all the other volunteers. It would have been a good photo opportunity for him too. I only asked him because he seems a great guyt who''d be up for a good laugh and wouldn''t mind the invitiation.

There would probably be some young folks that would line up for the chance to dunk a certain Major or Curmudgeon in Kingsville.

Come on you threadsters :)

bigo that''s not a bad idea. We could bill them as ""Eric Von Wade''s Threadsters"" (If you don''t mind Eric). How about it Major, Curmudgeon and you others? Why not share 30 minutes between you?
If you had half a dozen people that would only be 5 minutes each, and everyone will get a free meal (all you can eat) and drinks at the Tearoom (and maybe get in the paper too :)

I understand that there''s nothing wrong with asking...
But putting someone on the spot in a public forum isn''t the right way to do it.
If someone doesn''t answer your private e-mail or phone calls, then chances are they''re uninterested or flat-out busy.

Besides, all K''town does is have freaking parades. Seems like once a month they block off Kleberg for some stupid crap or other. I still laugh my ass off when I think of the train going through during that La Posada thing.
""La Posada"" is Spanish for ""drunk inbreds with lights on their pickups"", I think.
Now, Independence Day I can understand having a parade, but I see parades as yet another time when we have to act like politicians shouldn''t be lynched.

I agree with Curtis. When you do this in public then some people start making cracks likes for instance ""not wanting to get his hair messed up"" or something like that.

You know, Eric''s a big boy and he''s his own man. He''s quite capable of answering in his own way and he did so very clearly elsewhere in this thread. It''s his discussion forum for goodness sake. A little rabble rousing''s what you need from time to time in my opinion ;) Still, I have personally apologised to Eric in case he was offended.

No offense take as I know there was no offense intended. I also understand why some may think I am over cautious because their thinking is not like that of those I am aware of. At private gatherings my concerns are not an issue but in public venues it opens the door for those who seek out opportunities to take liberties and this is a situation in which the possibilities for such a situation exist.

My post was an attempt at some humor. When the offer was first made there were comments abbout doing it, not having to wear a shirt and getting his hair messed up. Then when Eric declined, I thought it was funny that the post''s turned to it wasn''t a good idea to do it in this forum, etc.
I understand that this can be deleted at any time, so I don''t see a problem.
